Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge Update

The old bridge, which was taken down in March (and which provides crucial access to Big Sur) is being replaced this summer and nearing completion. The chief engineer is quoted as saying that they've completed work in 7 months that normally would take 7 years.

Thanks for posting. That will be an interesting bridge.

I'm not trying to be negative, but isn't this (temporarily) like a "bridge to nowhere" ?? That is, with the mudslide 35 miles to the south, it still doesn't open up a lot of traffic on Hwy 1 does it?

I had read that the Coastal Commission is agonizing whether they will permit the mudslide debris to be pushed into the ocean or whether they will require it to be trucked perhaps 8 to 10 miles away.

Being practical, having common sense and finding the lowest cost way of doing things does not seem to be a criteria on the mudslide portion of the project. For that matter, why have the bridge crews working massive overtime when the mudslide issue is still up in the air?
