We moved out of Kaiser territory and my husband is on a different HMO/Medicare Advantage plan and we were pleasantly surprised that that new plan has zero premium and zero copays. The plan even includes things like $50 back every quarter to buy over the counter stuff from an online website, free gym membership at one of the 24-hour fitness type chain, free transportation to/from doctors' appointments if needed etc. We had initially looked at a Medigap plan F, and because it has been more than 2 years from when Medicare started, they bumped him up to tier 2 rates. Could not justify paying another $5K to $6K a year, so he picked the Medicare Advantage plan that many of our neighbors are on and so far for his health care needs, it is at least as good as Kaiser.

We checked today and Medicare has finally cleared DW's old insurance.
It now shows as terminated. It took eggsactly two weeks, as they said.

Now we get the privilege of calling the Doc & Lab to ask them to re-bill Medicare.
... Keeping our fingers crossed.

Do you mind me asking what Company his new plan is with? We use Cigna Healthspring, but would change for some of the benefits you mentioned.

I got a Plan F High Deductible. This year's deductible is $2200, 5 times what I spend in a year on doctors. I accept it, just as I don't think homeowner's premiums are wasted when my house doesn't burn down. My premium is $37.88 a month (yearly increase as I get older.) Medicare Advantage can be cheaper, but I prefer not to be constrained by networks.

I also have Plan F High Deductible. I, too, find it better to pay the tail of Dr bills than pay the premium for a full blown Plan F. I save a bunch of money doing this. I also agree with the comment I highlighted re Medicare Advantage.
