Has anyone heard of any progress on the conversion of this property? I am planning a trip to Hawaii next April and was hoping to use Staroptions both here and Maui.

Thanks

I have heard no news either, but it certainly won't be ready for occupancy by next April. Vistana does have a Kauai timeshare property (WPORV; Princeville).

I was there last summer and it was pure hotel with no timeline on conversion to timeshares. I was underwhelmed by the property (in comparison to WPORV, which is spectacular). I don't know how the weather is in April, but if it's tolerable, I would definitely go to WPORV.

Best,

Greg

We were at WPORV last April and it rained most of the day all but one day. We ended up driving to the south shore a lot!

We were there for 14 days in Sept (2015) and it barely rained - meanwhile, Poipu was getting drenched and people were driving north. We have been going EOY since 2009 in Sept/Oct timeframe - it has been beautiful with little rain (mostly late night).

Thanks for the replies...

I am considering Princeville but was worried about extensive rain during that time. My plan was 5 nights at Aulani (using my DVC points), followed by 4 nights on Kauai, then 6 nights on Maui. Trying to decide whether or not to go to Kauai or just add another day to both Oahu and Maui...It will be my 75 year old parents along with 4 fortysomethings (myself included) and 4 teens

I prefer not to do too many island changes when I go to Hawaii, since each move takes away a whole day of vacation. I generally want to go at least one week to each island I visit. Given two weeks of vacation, I would rather spend more time on each of two islands than try to squeeze in a third one. My 80 year old father would also prefer to relax than be packing and unpacking to move between resorts.

+1

By the time you pack, drive to the airport, wait, fly, wait, get a new car, drive to the new condo, check in and unpack, you have lost the better part of a day. Not to mention the stress. And the possibility of something going wrong with the car, the flight, the new condo, the luggage, or whatever.

We were at the Westin PORV for the last week in March this year and it did not rain even once.

So were we ... March 26 to April 2. There was some rain one night, and a bit of drizzle one afternoon, but otherwise the weather was perfect.

Went to an owner's update early this month, and the Kauai Sheraton has no dates when conversion will start. Kauai does not move fast, so would definitely not plan on using Staroptions if wanting to stay in Poipu. Also, stayed a couple of nights up at the Westin in Princeville which is simply lovely. They have kept the Hawaiian vibe going strong. Great place to relax.

The plan is to first renovate the portion that will continue as a hotel and to do the timeshare conversion after that.

I am excited for the new Sheraton Kauai, and I also remember rumors of Lawrence Welk resorts building somewhere on the south side of Kauai. Does anyone know if that fell apart?

We sold our Welk points early last year, but we still receive their newsletter. Nothing has been mentioned about Kauai. The property they bought is located near the shopping center inland from the Marriott Waiohai resort, so it won't be on the ocean. When we stayed at Waiohai in December, we didn't see any development, which didn't surprise us.

Best regards.

I like Poipu - but the location of the future timeshares behind the hotel will be disappointing for anyone who likes an ocean view. Also - this is going to be a very tight and congested area, because there is no where to expand. It's already tight and congested.

What I heard recently was consistent with HSB's report. What I came away with in addition was that it would likely be split use but with some ocean front TS units and that the entire facility may be rebranded.
