I got this offer and wanted to make sure others are aware it's out there. It's for 50% off unit size upgrade fees through Jan 27th. Too bad it's only good for exchanges through June 14th, though. Summer is when most families really need the extra space!

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF UNIT-SIZE UPGRADE OFFER
Unit Size Upgrade discount offer valid for instant exchange confirmations completed between January 17, 2016, and January 27, 2017. The Unit-Size Upgrade fee discount is applicable on check-ins between April 20, 2017, and June 14, 2017. To receive the Unit-Size discount, the member's Interval membership must be active through the deposit check-in date or travel check-out date, whichever is later. Promotional offers are available only to selected Interval International® members. Not all members selected receive the same offer. Pending exchange requests do not qualify.

Does anyone know if you have to pay the upgrade fees for retrades?

You do unless the originating exchange was before they started the upgrade fees. All of those prior exchanges were locked in to no upgrade fees. Any new exchanges after that will incur upgrade fees when attempted a retrade.

I'm not certain this is correct. I had an exchange into a 2 bedroom Branson unit using a 1 bedroom Las Vegas unit. We changed our minds after the upgrade fee was introduced and decided to retrade into Breckenridge. We ended up trading into a 1 bedroom unit because I.I. asked for the $99 upgrade fee on the retrade. Maybe that was a mistake but, they did want to charge us the fee.

I have two exchanges with eplus right now.
When I search with the one executed prior to the upgrade fee, there is no upgrade fee.
When I search with the one executed after the upgrade fee, the upgrade fee is shows up on the available unit to etrade into.

BUT...something I did notice last night. It seems that LM availability will NOT charge for the retrade. See below as an example. The Feb trade does not list the fee....the Sept ones do.

So, if you don't NEED the larger unit and not willing to pay for it, then maybe just wait until the closer to the vacation to retrade.

Was it a request or an actual completed and confirmed exchange? Did it have e-plus already? I had quite a few exchanges all with e-plus and none of them required upgrade fees after the implementation.

We had a pending exchange that was confirmed before the new fees. It was a studio in to a 2BR. It did not have, nor could I even add EPlus. When looking at retrades, it based the fees off of the original unit size of the studio. I suspect if the original trade was done after the new fees and the new fees paid, any retrade in to a larger unit would not require a new upgrade fee.

Without Eplus, the fee will always be based on your original deposit, not what was traded in to. If you paid a fee, I suspect that fee would be credited to any new fees that would be due when you retrade. I doubt you get a credit or refund if you retrade down a unit size where you paid the fee to upgrade.

It was a completed exchange. 1 Bedroom Marriott for a 2 bedroom Westgate. It didn't have E-plus, so perhaps that's the difference.
