Scientists Say They May Have New Evidence in D.B. Cooper Case
By Chris Ingalls/ King-TV, Seattle/ USA Today Network/ usatoday.com

"SEATTLE — A band of amateur scientists selected by the FBI to look for clues in the world’s most infamous skyjacking may have found new evidence in the 45-year-old case.

They’re asking for the public’s help because of potential leads that could link the hijacker known as D.B. Cooper to the Puget Sound aerospace industry in the early 1970s.

The scientific team has been analyzing particles removed from the clip-on tie left behind by Cooper after he hijacked a Northwest Orient passenger jet in November 1971.

A powerful electron microscope found more than 100,000 particles on old the JCPenny tie, including cerium, strontium sulfide and pure titanium...."

There is a show on the Travel Channel called Expedition Unknown. They just covered this case, including analyzing the tie. Its on right now (like as I am typing), but shows again on Wednesday evening.

Thanks for the update - I just watched the Wednesday episode of the show (it's also shown on other upcoming dates - best to Google for more info).

I don't think the show addressed the facts that if he jumped near Reno, NV where the plane landed to refuel - how did a portion of the money find its way near the river in southern Washington State?

Also, he asked for 4 parachutes and was given 2 older military-style parachutes and 2 newer-style parachutes. He chose the 2 military-style parachutes to take with him and left the other two on the plane along with his clip-on tie. Anyone have a theory as to why he jumped with 2 parachutes?

Also, too bad the FBI lost the cigarettes he smoked before lowering the rear staircase to exit and jump.
They didn't have DNA technology at the time - but now it would have provided some good evidence.

Evidence from the tie suggests he worked with Cathode-Ray Tube technology.

Still a mystery as to what happened after all these years.
