Back in the mid-80's, we purchased a pair of Klipsch Heresy II speakers. They are in good condition, as far as we know, but we don't want them anymore. Does anyone know if these speakers still have value? Also, is there a relatively easy way to find them a new home? The people we know just aren't interested.

FYI: I looked around a bit in the Klipsch community, but was overwhelmed by audiophile-level information. All we want to do is find a new home for the speakers, if someone would still want them.

You could look on eBay to see if anyone selling that model.
To give it away, you can advertise free stuff on Craig's List.
In many places, there's a freecycle organization -- trading free stuff.
Check to see if there's one near you at: https://www.freecycle.org/

I remember when 30 years ago Klisph were the speakers to have. I got klipsh surround speakers now but I think it like any thing else Schwinn and monsgoose Klipsh by name only.
Thanks Daniel

I have Klipsch speakers as well although not Heresys. Your speakers have value. Check out the Klipsch forum where you can ask questions about current value and even list them for sale at no cost to you.

https://community.klipsch.com/

Now, if you want to give them away let me know! :)

My Bose 601's are in the shop. Some one offer me $500.00 for them a couple of years ago but I like my Pink Floyd , Zeppelin, Steely Dan, Rush and other groups played loudly through the Bose. They sound excellent. Back in the 70's I think I paid about $500.00 for the Bose.

You might try to sell them on Ebay if they are in really good condition. Especially since you are the original owner and the speakers likely have consecutive serial numbers.

I have a pair of older Energy speakers. Tried selling them with an older receiver and found it was easier to either just trash them or re-purpose them. I connected them up to a third TV in the house. Even though we didn't really need it, I didn't want to just toss them or sell them for a few bucks.

Wired speakers are going the way of the dinosaurs.
Soon, everything electronic will be bluetooth or WiFi connected.

Not that I'm into that, having pulled a lot of wires thru the attic.

They are 30-40 years old. The flexible rubber membrane that supports the cone often rots at about that time. My 70's Advent had to be re-hung/ re-coned about 15 years ago. If you are trying to de-clutter, then make the price very low. Or just put them in the trash

Heresy II speakers should be worth some money, at least $200. There are plenty of audiophiles who would love a pair of these which are still in production I believe as the Heresy III. At a minimum I would list them on Audiogon. You could also list them on the Klipsch used equipment forum.

I had to re-membrane a pair of Infinity’s I bought in the 80s.

I gave them to my sister several years ago. They still sound great.

I’m all Sonos now. No more speaker wire or components.

In the 60's and 70's, accurate sound production seemed really important. In the 80's and 90's, wall shaking bass seemed really important. Now, small size and convenience seem really important. If you look hard, you may be able to get a good price, but the demand for large, high quality speakers is way down. Even if my kids and grandkids had nice speakers, I think they'd spend more time listening to music with crappy ear buds.

That’s because the Loudness War has almost eliminated the need for true high fidelity.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war

Plus, convenience is huge for me now. I don’t have to dig through vinyl and cds. I just use my phone and tell Sonos to play whatever I want in whatever room I want.

I was a radio disc jockey in the vinyl era. We also used tape cartridges for playing the hits over and over.

With a Sonos Connect Amp you can hook up any speakers but you’re still playing compressed files.

Thanks to all for your comments and suggestions.

I have never even looked at craigslist, but I may give it a try. I would so hate to just trash them, though I know they are out of style and not wanted by most people. And I think I'll check out the other websites suggested too, so I can figure out what to do.

even if they are blown, if the boxes are nice they should easily fetch a few hundred bucks.

people also like them more if they have matching serial numbers (ie the pair were made at the same time one after the other)

Sequential serial numbers are what collectors look for.

OP, these may be "out of style" but you can definitely get money for them as they have a following.

Slightly off topic, but still nostalgic audio....

Remember these? I'm actually considering buying one. Yes, our CD players will dust it in audio quality, but these things always just looked so cool!

This discussion reminded me of our stereo gear acquired when my husband was in the Air Force in Germany in the 70s. It was the thing you did..so we have Bose 901s, a reel to reel player much like the one Phydeaux pictured, and state of the art (for the time) turntable and receiver. We didn't get any US TV, so spent lots of time listening to music. Haven't used them since we moved to our current house about 15 years ago but can't quite bear to get rid of them. We've got Sonus speakers for our family room now and wireless is definitely easier!

I've got a pair of these stored under my bed. One of these days I'd like to get them back out. Still one of the best sounding speakers ever made.

Ah yes, Magnepan.

I auditioned them with several of my favorite Telarc CD's back in the day when I was loudspeaker shopping. I was unimpressed. Poor bass response and overall tone, but glad you're happy with them. That's all that matters.

Ah Magnepans! I still got them, still use them, still love them. I did add a subwoofer, and they do need it. I drove by their factory last week. They're not too far from us.

Yes, I added a sub as well. I'm more into clarity of reproduction than pounding bass or artificial coloration -- hence planar. I'd be using mine now as well, but they do demand a lot of room, and my wife wasn't a fan of such obtrusive speakers. Mine are white oak with the black cloth. Beautiful speakers.
